500+ practice questions · 50 mock exam · 90% pass mark
What is the BTT?
The Basic Theory Test (BTT) is the first theory exam every new driver in Singapore must pass. It covers traffic signs, road markings, traffic rules and basic hazard awareness before you can start practical driving lessons at BBDC, CDC or SSDC.
The official exam has 50 multiple-choice questions with a 90% pass mark (45 correct). TheoryLane mirrors this format so you know you are ready before booking on OneMotoring.
BTT is the gate to practical lessons at BBDC, CDC or SSDC. You cannot start those lessons until you pass. That is why we recommend finishing signs and markings first, then rules of the road, then a timed mock only when untimed practice is already above 90%.
A practical week before booking: two evenings of lesson mode on signs, one evening on traffic rules, one short timed practice, then rest the night before the test. Cramming 200 questions at 1 a.m. after a shift raises panic more than scores.
Signs that appear early in BTT study

Mistakes we see most in BTT practice
- Treating a Give Way triangle like a Stop sign — or the reverse
- Forgetting school-zone 40 km/h applies on school days, not every calendar day
- Assuming every expressway is 90 km/h even when a lower sign is shown
- Reading only the English option and skipping the picture
BTT exam format
- 50 multiple-choice questions
- 50 minutes time limit
- 90% pass mark (45/50 correct)
- Topics: signs, markings, rules, safety
- Book via OneMotoring — fee approx. S$7.09
